Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Benefits*

Up to $6,000 per insured per trip for Single-Trip All-Inclusive plans
Reimbursement of prepaid portion of the trip that is non-refundable and non-transferable to another travel date for a covered event
Highlights of some of the insured risks:
Unexpected medical emergency or death of insured or insured’s travel companion
Unexpected medical emergency or death of insured’s or insured’s travel companion’s immediate family or key person
Cancellation of a business meeting
Canadian Government issues a Travel Advisory related to the travel destination

The person whose guest the insured will be during trip has been admitted to a hospital or dies
Missed connection
Baggage Loss, Damage and Delay*

This coverage relates to the loss of, damage to, and delay of baggage and effects. This insurance provides coverage for the following expenses:
Up to $100 for replacement of a lost or stolen passport, driver’s licence, birth certificate or travel visa
Up to $500 for necessary toiletries and clothing when luggage is delayed by the carrier for at least 10 hours while the insured is en route
Up to $300 per trip for any item or set of items to a maximum of $1,000
Flight Accident and Travel Accident*

Flight Accident and Travel Accident Insurance covers the following benefits:

If an accidental bodily injury causes the insured to die, to become completely and permanently blind in both eyes or to have two limbs fully severed above the wrist or ankle joints, in the 12 months after the accident, Manulife will pay: $100,000 under Flight Accident Insurance; or $50,000 under Travel Accident Insurance.
If an accidental bodily injury causes the insured to become completely and permanently blind in one eye or have one limb fully severed above a wrist or ankle joint in the 12 months after the accident, Manulife will pay: $50,000 under Flight Accident Insurance; or $25,000 under Travel Accident Insurance.
If the insured has more than one accidental bodily injury during the trip, Manulife will pay the applicable insured sum only for the one accident that entitles the insured to the largest benefit amount.

Top-Up Options

Top-Up coverage must be purchased prior to the expiry date of the Multi-trip coverage and is subject to an extra premium charge.
The Emergency Medical Top-Up option is used to top up a Manulife Multi-Trip plan or plans of other insurers; provided that the entire trip outside of Canada, including the top-up period, is not longer than the duration allowed by the insured’s government health insurance plan.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to confirm that top-up is permitted on the existing plan with no loss of coverage.
If the applicant is age 60 or older, the Medical Questionnaire must be completed.

For those who travel more than once a year, it may be less expensive to buy a Multi-Trip plan.

4, 10, 18 and 30 day plans are available with coverage for 12 months allowing for an unlimited number of trips up to the trip duration purchased, subject to provincial residency requirements of 183 days (212 days for residents in Ontario or Newfoundland).

Top-Up coverage can be purchased for longer trips.

Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption is $2.5 million, per act of terrorism, for up to 2 acts of terrorism within a calendar year

Out-of-Province Travel – Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for insurance under this policy, an applicant must be a resident of Canada and covered under a government health insurance plan.

Applicants age 60 or over need to complete the Medical Questionnaire to determine their eligibility and rate category.

Application and Medical Questionnaire
Must be completed within 180 days of the effective date.
Single-Trip plans must be purchased for the entire duration of the trip that is out of Canada.
If a paper-based application is being used, then the customer must sign the application and return it to us.

Eligibility and Rate Category

At the time of application, if the applicant is:

Under Age 60: Automatically qualifies for Rate Category A and does not need to complete the medical questions for eligibility or for rate category.

If not eligible to purchase this insurance
If the applicant is 60 or over and is not eligible to purchase this insurance, the applicant can apply for emergency medical coverage under Manulife’s Individual Medical Underwriting Plan, by calling 1-877-884-8283 or (519) 251-7417. The applicant will need to be able to answer questions related to the applicant’s health status and will need to know the applicant’s travel dates in order to receive a quote. This quote will match the applicant’s specific health needs and circumstances. When the applicant pays the quoted premium, the applicant’s pre-existing conditions will be covered during the applicant’s trip under the Individual Medical Underwriting Plan.

Rate category determines the duration of the pre-existing condition exclusion

Refunds and Extensions
The policyholder may cancel this insurance at any time before the effective date.
If the policyholder returns home early, the policyholder can apply for a refund of the premiums (minimum $25.00) for the unused coverage providing there has been or will be no claim reported or initiated against the policy, that no assistance service has been provided and that the policyholder has mailed a written refund request within 5 days of the policyholder’s return, along with proof of the date they actually returned home.
All travellers insured under the same policy must return together for a refund to be possible.
Refunds and Cancellations are not permitted on Trip Cancellation/Interruption, All-Inclusive and Multi-Trip All-Inclusive plans.

Extensions:

Extensions are available if, at the time the applicant applies for an extension, the applicant has not had an event that resulted in or may result in a claim against the policy and there has been no change in the applicant’s health status, and if the applicant’s trip, including the extension, does not exceed the duration outside of Canada allowed by the insured’s government health insurance plan.
